“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
John 3:6-8
We’re at the point in our Grounded Assurances articles to explore now the role of the Holy Spirit in helping clear the fog of doubt for the follower of Christ.
On the one hand, questions abound regarding the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, the Bible clearly states:
- He is God (Acts 5:3-4).
- He gives insight into the things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10-11).
- He prays for us in our weaknesses (Romans 8:26).
- He convicts us concerning sin (John 16:7-11).
- He will never leave us (John 14:16).
- He regenerates us (Titus 3:5-7).
- He seals us (Ephesians 1:13).
- He teaches us (John 14:26).
- He bears witness to Christ (John 15:26).
- He is the Helper (John 14:16).
The mystery of the Holy Spirit’s work is that it is His work according to the will of God. In the formlessness and void, He hovered over creation. In the same way, He moves into the formlessness and voids of human hearts to make souls cry out to God, “Abba…Father!“
Therefore, “though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8).
